New page creation wizard

I added a box into my user page that allows you to easily create a new game page with all the necessary templates already in place, empty. Check it out. The process to do this was very simple: on the page where you want the creation box to appear, you add this:

Now, you'll notice that snippet has a reference to another page, namely Steam Trading Cards Wiki:Game page/preload. You can create any number of "wizards" like this, but I suppose we'll be happy with this one and another one for the trading card pages. Anyone want to make one? :)

Not Gone Just Taking A Break!

Hey everybody! Just wanted to let you know that while I love editing the wikia I just need to take some time off due to burnout. I've added a lot of game pages (and Chris followed up with the images) and now I am just relaxing a bit before my next burst of editing. I'm always watching the wikia for vandilism (which has dropped significantly since making anonymous edits forbidden) and for edits by other users that need to be patrolled (reviewed). So just know that I am here but just taking some time off from the big work :)

Purge!

So I added the purge feature to our wikia. If you make an edit and it doesn't seem to show up right away you can click on the drop-down arrow next to edit and you should see a refresh option appear. By clicking that you force the server cache to purge the old version of the page so that the new version is available to all.

Right now it does not show up but it will eventually.

The button is now Active and can be found int the edit buttons drop-down!

Angels with Scaly Wings

Can someone make a page on the game Angels with Scaly Wings? It's quite an underrated game, but it does have trading cards, badges, backgrounds and emoticons. (Although there are not much of them on the market, and the ones that are cost a lot more than any other items for any other game.)

This Wiki

I enjoy contributing to ths wiki as it is much easier than other sites to contribute to, it does take a long time to get a page sorted though as you need to make individual pages and upload photos seperately for every trading card and emoticon before adding them to the games page.

Card Drop Time Reduced?

So I purchased To Be or Not To Be on 3 November (somewhat late in the day IIRC) and just now started it up with the intent of leaving it idle before deciding I'd just call it a night and shut down for bed. A mere fifteen minutes elapsed by the time elapsed counter, yet it awarded me my first Trading Card for the game* anyway. Is it just because there's comparably little "gameplay", or it was on sale, or...? Not really looking for an answer, just felt like noting it for anyone who cares.

  • I realize calling it a "game" is a bit inaccurate, but choosing your own adventure is as valid a game mechanic as any other form of entertainment, however rigid the potential outcomes

Status Update - so long, and thanks for all the fish

This is something I've been thinking about for a while now, but I think it's time that I move on from working on this wiki. It's something that I just don't enjoy as much as I used to, and it simply takes up too much time. With roughly 50 games added every week, it takes at least a couple of hours every day just to add the games and their cards, forget getting any actual work done completing the pages. The trading card system is a bit over 3 years old now, and I've been working on the wiki nearly from the beginning - I just feel like its time to move on and do something different.

I'd like to thank everyone who's contributed to the wiki. Have fun  :)

Status Update - May 22, 2016

Another two weeks (already?), another status update:

The number of Supported Games/Movies/Software is up to 3856, giving us a total of 98 games released in the past 2 weeks. There are 1926 Work in Progress games, up 82 from last time. That gives us 16 games finished off in the past 2 weeks.

Not really much else to say, really.

Time for yet another 2 week status update:

The number of Supported Games/Movies/Software is now 3758, up 84 from 2 weeks ago. The number of Work in Progress pages is now 1844, up 76 from 2 weeks ago. That gives a total of 8 games finished off.

A slightly slower 2 week period, since at least there were less than 100 games released. Other than that, there's really not much to say.

Yet another biweekly status update on the wiki:

The number of Supported Games/Movies/Software is now 3674, up 106 from 2 weeks ago. That would be the second highest number of games added in a 2 week period. The number of Work in Progress pages is 1768, up 93 from the previous period. That gives a total of 13 pages finished off.

This was the third 2 week period in a row with more than 100 games added. So I'm guessing this is the new normal... So, anyone know when the next big Steam sale is? I could use a break :P

Another 2 weeks, another status update on the wiki:

The number of supported games/movies/software is now 3568, up 105 from 2 weeks ago. The number of Work in Progress pages is now 1675, up 90. That gives a total of 15 game pages finished off. Not great, but certainly better than last time around.

The number of games having Steam cards added definitely seems to be have accelerated greatly in the past couple of months. While this period's 105 games isn't an all time high (which was 112, set 2 weeks ago), it is the second highest number ever. That gives 227 card sets total in the past 2 weeks. The entire first year of the trading card program, there were 677 games, so releases are roughly four times faster than they were 2 years ago.

Status Update - March 27, 2016

Happy Easter everyone. It's been another 2 weeks, so it's time for the usual status update.

The number of supported Games/Movies/Software is up to 3463. In the past 2 weeks, the number of card sets released was 112. Yes, that's right, 112. For reference, the previous high was 92, set 2 weeks ago. The number of Work in Progress pages 1585, up 108 from 2 weeks ago. That gives 4 card sets finished off, which is... not terribly good, really :P

I have to say, having 112 sets released in a 2 week period is absolutely insane. I certainly hope that this isn't any sort of new normal, because it's almost impossible to keep up with. Really, the only reason I have been able to keep up with this avalanche of games is another topic I was going to talk abo…

No More Commons

So DanglingBotifier has now stripped all the "Common Emoticons" tags (except from one blog comment), a little less painlessly than anticipated because I thought to try to avoid extra edits by simultaneously add in the Fair Use licensing in the event it hadn't been (which I've seen but can't remember where).  That didn't quite go as planned, and now there are maybe some double-licensed files here and there... not quite so easy to fix, but I guess it's better than not having the license at all.  That's what I get for letting good old Mouse Auto-clicker do all the edit approvals.

Uncommon Emoticons is a little over half as many as Common, so it shouldn't take as long to fix even if I monitor the process, but it DOES tie up my computer, to my a…

Well, permanently banned from Steam General Discussions. I guess that's one way to shut me up. Not making me particularly pleased, but hey, screw user satisfaction right?

Also funny how this was supposed to cut down tickets but I've send 1 in 2012, and then no more till end 2015, when Valve's shit hit the fan. And when I say funny; I mean sad.

Well, I guess they can revel now in less posts being against it, sure must be easy to have something "positive" if you just ban any opposition... see, everyone loves it!

Second ban time from the mods. They sure do seem to make a very hard effort to sweep any dissatisfaction under the rug. As expected I cannot trade nor sell anything, and as thus also refuge to buy anything. This kinda hampers my ability to help out on the wiki, as also interest is waning since the card system has been rendered useless to me.

Needless to say, after such a massive number of games being released, we fell behind,. The number of Work in Progress pages is 1477, up 68 from 2 weeks ago. Status Update - January 17, 2016

Another 2 weeks, another status update:

The number of Supported Games/Movies/Software is now at 3,037. Yes, that's right, we've broken 3,000. The 2,000 point was passed back in June 2015, 7 months ago. The 1,000 milestone was passed in September 2014, 9 months before that, and 16 months after the trading card system was added to Steam. So the rate of gaming having cards added continues to accelerate. We'll have to see how long it takes to get to 4,000.

Anyway, back to the status update: the number of Supported Games/Movies/Software is now at 3,037, up 61 from 2 weeks ago. The number of Work in Progress pages is 1285, up 37 from 2 weeks ago. That would give us 24 pages finished off.

Happy New Year! There's a couple of topics for today's update, so lets start with the usual status report.

The number of Work in Progress pages is 1248, up 17 from 2 weeks ago, meaning 23 games have been finished off. It was nice to have a slower period of releases to work on some of them.

The second topic is the wiki's popularity: there's always a lot more people visiting during Steam sales, and this one was no exception: according to Wikia's WAM score, we've now reached a new all-time high in this wiki's popularity: on both December 31st and January 1st, we reached #…

2 weeks already? Boy, that zipped by.

The number of Supported Games is now up to 2538, up 91 from 2 weeks ago. That's a new high score - the previous high was 87 in a 2 week period back in May. I'm not really sure why there's such a massive clump of games at once like that sometimes. The previous 2 week update was only 55 games. That's a pretty big variation... Anyway, the number of Work in Progress games is 922, up 77 from 2 weeks ago. Not really a surprise that we've fallen behind after that avalanche of game releases.

A couple of minor side notes: I changed the background to a Shadowgate one that seems, to me at least, a bit more Halloween-y. I might keep looking, though. The second one is that, with the release of Double Fine Adventure…

Bot edits

Hello! I am a bot.

So, I've been doing some general clean-up around the Wiki, most notably changing (most if not) all the instances of a game's card count to either

  • "There are (X) cards in the series, and you'll receive (X/2 rounded up) cards at random for purchasing and playing the game." or
  • "There are (X) cards in the series. Because (game) is a Free to Play Game, cards are earned by purchasing in-game content (approximately $9 USD per card drop).

In addition, I have made the following executive decisions:

  • Blanketly tweaked the Badge gallery settings to have smaller spacing and wider margins, so the longer badge names are less squished. (should be complete)
  • Changed descriptions of, for instance, "The sequels, (Game II) and (Game III), also hav…

Time for the Steam Summer Sale, and time for the biweekly status update. In the past 2 weeks, the number of supported game has risen from 1941 to 2013, an increase of 72 games. The number of Work in Progress games has gone from 603 to 630, an increase of 27. So we well behind a little bit, but nothing too bad. As a side note, the usual uptick in wiki traffic is happening. According to the Wikia WAM score, we're usually somewhere between rank 400-500 (it tends to float around quite a bit.) Right now we're at 202. Just above the Simpson's Tapped Out wiki. The number of page views has gone from about 16-22k per day to today's 41.8k page views.
